Yleana Hughes

In 1990, Yleana began doing outreach work for Spanish speaking families who were recently diagnosed with HIV.

She then continued her education and received her master’s degree and returned to work at the AHA. For the past twenty years she has focused her work on providing education to individuals and families adapting to the constant struggles of living with a bleeding disorder. This ranges from teaching them about their bleeding disorder, adapting to their diagnosis, to dealing with possible complications in school and the financial stresses families encounter. She also conducts home evaluations and has been a leader in recruiting and staffing Camp HONOR for the past twenty years. Camp HONOR is a medically based camp dedicated to teaching individuals with bleeding disorders how to be independent.
